What are the different parts of a pallet rack?

Pallet racks typically consist of two unique parts:

• Pallet rack uprights: The upright serves as the frame of the pallet rack, providing a place to attach the beams. The footplate can be anchored to the floor for additional stability. 

• Different uprights have various methods for beam attachment. Shelving.com’s teardrop racking uprights allow for easy assembly and maintenance!

• Beams: The beams on a pallet rack fasten attach to the upright frames and act as shelves, spanning the length in between to support the products and pallets being stored on the rack.

When should you replace the parts of your pallet racking?

While it’s always good to schedule regular maintenance of the pallet racks throughout your warehouse, you should replace pallet racking when it begins to show significant signs of damage. These signs can include:

• Bent or cracked uprights and/or step beams

• Extensive corrosion

• Damage at different heights

• Damage to the anchor point on the floor

• Misaligned components

Once damage is apparent, it’s time to replace any compromised parts to keep your workers and inventory as safe as possible.
