Our Story
We have been serving the storage needs of business and industry since 1960. We pride ourselves in offering the finest quality storage products available as well as providing added value with our design-build capabilities and after-the-sale support services. In our infancy, Jack Schodowski (founder) combined his love of industrial engineering and sales to start a family business with his wife, Helen. He opened the doors of Shelving, Inc. in a two-story warehouse in Detroit, Michigan, at the corner of Riopelle and Woodbridge. Jack developed a quality brand and instilled in the company a strong sense of pride and community. His goal was to assist customers in organization and space allocation by effectively using the best storage solutions available.
Now over 60 years later, Shelving Inc. is still a family-owned business, holding true to the same values and goals that Jack put forth. The company has moved to its current location in Madison Heights, Michigan, but we still remain loyal to our humble Detroit roots. As we all know, Detroit has seen its fair share of trying times, so we have partnered with the Capuchin Soup Kitchen to help others in need. We happily donate 10% of our profits to Capuchin every year, spending time and donating products to help whenever we can.
Jack developed a quality brand, instilling in the company a strong sense of pride & community.
Today, the next generation of Schodowskis have taken the reins and are leading the company into our bright future.
Our Website
The growing demand to reach customers all over the country prompted Shelving Inc. to launch our first website, www.Shelving.com, in 2004. The idea was to make industrial products easy to find, understand, and order, no matter who's shopping. We've partnered with several of our industrial suppliers to offer the same high quality products online that we've installed in countless local warehouses.
With our overwhelming success online, we decided to expand into the consumer market, providing organizing products to organize life’s stuff. In 2007, a showroom was opened in Madison Heights to reflect those residential products and house our additional employees. We are constantly adding products to the website to help you make better use of your space, whether you need storage for the house or your place of business.
Our Staff
Our crew is comprised of talented and creative people who are dedicated to helping businesses find storage products to suit their needs. We have a resource center to answer calls/emails and provide quotes, a design team that will help you make the most of your space, an installation team that takes the worry out of large projects, and sales titans that show the world why we rock. Our web team writes the product descriptions and creates images so you know exactly what you're buying! With under 30 employees, we're a small business that can take care of some big jobs.

Our Involvement
Our Involvement
Shelving.com proudly supports the hard work and dedication of the Capuchin Soup Kitchen in Detroit, Michigan. The Capuchin Soup Kitchen works tirelessly to help improve the lives of the less fortunate and to provide for the basic needs of the disadvantaged.
The Capuchin Soup Kitchen was founded on core Franciscan beliefs, inspired by St. Francis of Assisi, more than 125 years ago. The philosophy and tradition of the Capuchins is based upon the idea that the Good News is available to all people, rich or poor, and that service to those in need is truly a service to a greater cause. The Capuchins strive to uphold these essential values by caring for those who require aid or assistance.
The Capuchin Soup Kitchen Today
The Detroit Capuchin Soup Kitchen is involved in the local community in many ways. They provide a locally sourced daily meal program to hundreds of men, women and children, and their Services Center provides emergency food, clothing and medical care to area residents. The Soup Kitchen has established and maintains a 2.5-acre organic urban farming program within the city limits in an effort to restore balance to the environment and community, providing sustainable local agriculture.
The Capuchin Mission
- Tend to people's basic needs, especially the need for food.
- Strive to stimulate minds and nourish spirits.
- Work to understand and address root causes of social injustice in our community.
- In all we do, we seek to build alliances with others who share a commitment to this vision.
In addition to their meal and outreach programs for the less fortunate, the Soup Kitchen provides counseling and support services for those in recovery from addiction. The On the Rise Bakery is a structured and safe work environment for anyone currently in recovery or having recently been released from prison, to be reintegrated with the community in a productive and rewarding way. For younger children in need of help and support, the Capuchin Soup Kitchen offers children’s programs, including after-school tutoring, art therapy, a lending library, summer camp and much more. The CSK also offers a full professional catering service for local events that benefits and helps financially sustain the CSK's many programs.
If you would like to learn more about the Capuchins, make a financial or time donation, or otherwise get involved, we encourage you to be a part of a truly life-changing experience - for you and for those you help.
