As the final quarter of the year approaches, the idea of maintaining, cleaning, or repairing anything in your warehouse can start to feel overwhelming.
However, warehouse maintenance can be absolutely critical this time of year. Due to the amount of workers, items, and equipment flowing into and out of your facility, any damage or hazards in your warehouse can pose a greater risk than usual, both to your staff and to your inventory.
To make these tasks easier to understand and execute, we’ve prepared a brief checklist of warehouse maintenance tasks to focus on during the busy holiday season
Q4 Warehouse Maintenance Checklist
Inventory and Storage Area
- Review your inventory for damaged goods that need to be returned or replaced
- Check your pallet racks for damage that could pose a risk to your teams for inventory, including damage to the pallet uprights or pallet rack decking
- Ensure items are still being put away neatly in a way that allows easy access when they need to be picked
Safety Implements
- Review current safety protocols to ensure alignment with OSHA standards, industry guidelines, etc
- Conduct further inspections of fire escapes and emergency exits
- Review safety installations like warehouse guard rails and make repairs/replacements as needed
Cleaning & Sanitation
- Schedule regular disinfections of any high-touch or potentially unsanitary conditions, including bathrooms, break rooms, and warehouse offices
- Create a plan to sanitize shared devices, like RFID scanners, tablets, and shared computer workstations
By working these steps into your daily routine, you can keep your warehouse cleaner, safer, and more efficient, even through the busiest time of year.
